The Chamber tackle issues which will affect the productivity of business - any law or possible law, any curtailment of a right to trade or a threat to a business's future will be investigated and if necessary we will lobby on behalf of the businesses.
How is your business doing? We will usually contact members either by phone or email to obtain a response to a question or series of questions or to seek an opinion on an issue. Your replies are collated and fed back either to the statutory body (e.g. county council) in the case of a local or regional issue, or to the British Chambers of Commerce, who will add those replies to the others received from around the UK and, armed with that real feed back from the business community, hold talks with the relevant Government Ministry or Department. The information or data collected is freely available to any Chamber member on request.
National and European LobbyingOur lobbying power also carries your issues to EU Parliament We can communicate effectively with our MEPs, a channel that has proved itself to be extremely effective in safeguarding the freedoms of UK businesses enabling them to remain competitive on the European and World stage. [see the Opt-Out Clause on the Working Time Directive.]If you haven't already talked to us about the issues facing your business, it's about time you did. Call: 01483 726655
Lobbying leads to publicityThe information gathered during the lobbying process can also be used for writing informed articles for local newspapers and magazines and for local radio discussions. We direct local media attention to your business Local radio stations require not only up to date factual information, they also need to hear from a business involved with the main issues. Surrey Chambers will put forward the names of business who have voiced concerns or who have joined the debate who then benefit from free publictiy. national publicity When our issues coincide with the national debate, we similarly receive requests from National news media - a national broadsheet newspaper or BBC or ITV News service . The benefits of that kind of publicity speak for themselves!
